Transit Windsor Garage $32.5M Expansion
Construction is officially underway on a major expansion of Transit Windsor’s operations, maintenance, and servicing facility on North Service Road East.
Originally constructed in 1979, the existing Transit Windsor facility was designed to support a significantly smaller fleet and workforce. As the transit system has grown over the decades, the demands placed on the facility have also increased, creating the need for additional space to support bus storage, vehicle maintenance, servicing operations, staff functions, and the day-to-day requirements of a modern transit system.
The expansion will increase the capacity of the existing bus storage and maintenance areas, providing Transit Windsor with additional space to better accommodate its current operations and support future growth. The improvements are also intended to enhance operational efficiency by providing a facility that better reflects the size of the organization, its fleet, and the level of service required across the community.
The project represents a significant investment in Windsor’s public transit infrastructure and forms part of the City’s broader efforts to modernize and strengthen its transit system. Funding for the improvements is being supported through municipal, provincial, and federal investment.
With construction now underway, the project is expected to progress over approximately two years.
For Architecttura, the Transit Windsor Garage Expansion is another opportunity to contribute to major infrastructure projects within our home community. Facilities of this nature play an important role behind the scenes, providing the operational base required to keep vehicles maintained, employees supported, and transit service moving throughout the city.
We look forward to seeing the project take shape as construction progresses and to continuing our work with the City of Windsor, Transit Windsor, Oscar Construction, and the full project team.
